Consenting issues are a hot topic in rural New Zealand – and for good reason too. The whole process has become far too complex, expensive and uncertain.
Many farming families are being forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars, sometimes more, on consent applications, only to get bogged down in never-ending red tape.
The good news is help is on the way, with the Government’s new resource management rules due by the middle of next year – but we desperately need an interim solution.
With thousands of resource consents set to expire in the next few months, the Government must move quickly to avoid a messy and expensive situation for rural New Zealand.
A simple and pragmatic solution is to allow all existing resource consents to roll over until a new resource management system is up and running.
